St. Elizabeth Vocational Secondary School Ggulama Masaka District

The community of Ggulama was in terrible situation with orphans whose parents had died from HIV/AIDS pandemic between 1980s and 1990s and the continuing dropout of girls from schools. The late Zzimwanguyizza Boniface the father of Sr. Elizabeth Namaganda,  offered a place at his home where girls could be helped to acquire some skills in home economics and agriculture in 1985. The community members zealously participated in fundraising and they put some shelters in the land Late Zimwanguyizza offered which opened officially in 1989.  Later they bought land for expansion with the external assistance of MIREMBE FOUNDATION in the Netherlands and other friends from abroad.

St. Elizabeth Vocational Secondary School in Ggulama exists to provide quality education and vocational training to students, equipping them with practical skills and knowledge necessary for the workforce.

The school aims to empower youth, promote self-sufficiency, and address local economic needs by focusing on skill development in various trades. By doing so, it supports both individual growth and community development, helping students to secure better job opportunities and contribute positively to society.

The philosophy of St. Elizabeth Vocational School in Ggulama focuses on holistic education, empowering students through practical skills and values that align with community development. Central to its mission is the belief that education should not only impart knowledge but also foster personal growth, social responsibility, and economic independence.

Key elements of this philosophy include:

  1.  Emphasizing hands-on training in various vocational fields to prepare students for the job market and enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
  2.  Instilling principles such as integrity, respect, and hard work, helping students to develop not just as skilled workers but as responsible citizens.
  3. Engaging with local needs and fostering a spirit of service, encouraging students to apply their skills for the betterment of their communities.
  4.  Promoting access to education for all, particularly marginalized groups, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
  5. Encouraging a mindset of continuous improvement and adaptability, preparing students for an ever-changing world.
